SINGULAR FORMS OF OTHER: The other vs. Another.
The other means "the last one" in a specific group.
SITUATION: There are two mangoes in the fruit basket. 🥭🥭
1. I will take one of them. My mother will take the other.
The other can be used as an adjective before a noun or before the word one.
The other can also be used alone as a pronoun.  Examples:
2. I took one of them. My mother took the other mango.
3. I took one of them. My mother took the other one.
4. I took one of them. My mother took the other. (as a pronoun)
In (3): the other one = the other mango. In (4): the other = the other mango.
Another (one word) is a combination of an + other.
Another means "one more" out of a group of similar items.
SITUATION: There are many apples in the fruit basket. 🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎
(a) You ate one of them. If you are still hungry after eating one apple.
You can eat another apple.
Another can be used as an adjective before a noun or before the word one.
Another can also be used alone as a pronoun. Examples:
(b) You ate one apple. Then you ate another apple.
(c) You ate one apple. Then you ate another one.
(d) You ate one apple. Then you ate another. (as a pronoun)
In (c): another one = another apple. In (d): another = another apple.
The following sentences with the other and another:
1.There are two chairs in this room.
 Sam sits on one of them. Teds sits on the other.
2.There are many birds in the tree. One bird is crow.
  Another bird is an eagle. The other bird is a parrot.
3. There were three flowers in the flower pot. One was pink.
  Another one was red. The other one was yellow.
4. It rained yesterday afternoon. We are going to have another rainstorm today.
5. Jolly and molly identical twins. One of two has pierced ears, and 
the other has not pierced ears yet.
6. There are some interesting places to visit in this area. 
I will visit one of them tomorrow. If I have a lot of time, I will visit another.

PLURAL FORMS OF OTHER: The others vs. others.

The other with -s means "the last ones"in a specific group.
The other without -s can be used as an adjective in front of a plural noun 
or in front of the word ones.
The others can also be used as a plural pronoun.
SITUATION: There are four candles on the cake. 🕯🕯🕯🕯
1. I will light one of them.
2. My friends will light the other candles.
3. My friends will light the other ones
4. My friends will light the others. (as a plural pronoun)
In (3) the other ones = the other candles. In (4): The others = the other candles.
 Other with -s, without the means "several more" out of a group of similar items.
Other without -s can be used as an adjective in front of a plural noun or 
in front of the word ones.
Others can also be used as a plural pronoun.
SITUATION: There are many books in the library. 📘📘📘📘📘📘📘📘
(a) I am reading one book
(b) There are other books on the shelf.
(c) There are other ones on the table. 
(d) There are others on the circulation desk. (as a pronoun)
In (c): other ones = other books. In (d): others = other books.
The following sentences with the others and others.
1. There are four geometric figures. One of them is a square. 
The other geometric figures are a rectangle, a circle and triangle.
2. There are three colors in American flag. One color is red. 
The others are white and blue.
3. There are many elephants in the jungle. I see an elephant.
Other elephants are walking along the road. 
Other ones are walking in the field.
Others are walking on the bridge.
4. Many people like to get up very early in the morning.  
Others like to sleep until noon.
The following examples with forms of other:
  the other, another, the others, others, other.
1. Sue has two suits. One suit is black and the other is gray.
2. And he wants to buy another one.
3. When I am thirsty, I drink a glass of water. Often one glass is not enough.
So, I drink another glass.
4. There are five letters in the word. One of of the five letters is vowel 
and the others are consonant.
5. Some jackets have zippers. Other jackets have button.
6. Everybody has two thumbs. One is on the right hand. 
The other is on the left hand.
7. My husband gave me a ring. I tried it on my ring finger, but it did not fit.
So, I had to put on another finger.
8. Some people keep dogs as pets. Other people have cats. 
Other ones still have fish. Others also have birds as pets.
9. Das is a common last name in Bengali. The other common names are 
Sarker, Senha, Chakraborty, Rai, Nath, etc.
