Why asks about reason. The following examples are with the simple past tense.
1.A: Did you run? B: Yes, I did. (I ran.) 
 A: Why did you run? B: Because I was late.
2.A: Did he leave work early? B: Yes, he did. (He left work early.)
 A: Why did he leave work early? B: Because he did not feel well.
3. A: Did you move to this city? B: Yes, I did. (I moved to this city.)
A: Why did you move to this city? B: Because l liked this city.
4. A:  Did Roy laugh? B: Yes, Roy did. (Roy laughed.)
A: Why did Roy laugh? B: Because Sam made a funny face.
5. A: Was she behind the door? B: Yes, she was. (She was behind the door.)
A: why was she behind the door? B: Because she wanted to surprise you.
6. A: Did you go to class ? B: No, I did not. (I did not go to class.)
A: Why did not you go to class? B: Because I was sick.
7. A: Did he finish his task? B: No, he did not. (He did not finish his task.)
A: Why did not he finish his task? B: Because he did not have enough time.
8. A: Did you answer the phone? B: No, I did not. (I did not answer the phone.)
A: Why did not you answer the phone? B: because I wanted to finish my duty.
9. A: Did you eat breakfast ? B: No, I did not. (I did not eat breakfast .)
A. Why did not you eat breakfast? B. Because I was not hungry.
10. A: Did you turn on the alarm? B: No, I did not. (I did not turn on the alarm.)
A: Why did not you turn on the alarm? B: Because I forgot.

           NOTICE: Why, What ... for and How come have the same meaning.

Why = What ... forWhat ... for also asks about reason. Examples:
1. A: She was at the airport yesterday.
 B: What was she for at the airport yesterday? 
A: Because a friend came to visit.
2. A: I stayed home from office. B: What did you stay for home from office? 
A: Because I wanted to watch world cup final on TV.
3. A: My kids transferred to elementary school. 
B: What did your kids transfer for to elementary school?
A: Because it was a better school.
4. A: I went to the zoo on weekend. B:What did you go for to the zoo ?
A: Because I wanted to see the animals.
5. A: They went to a restaurant last night. 
B: What did they go for to a restaurant last night?
A: Because it was grandmother's birthday.
6. A: I was so late. B: What was you for late?
A: Because traffic was heavy.
7. A: We did not go to the park this afternoon.
 B: What did not you go for to the park this afternoon?
A: Because the weather was not nice.
8. A: I did no clean my apartment last week. 
B: What did not you clean for your apartment last week?
A: Because I was so busy.
9. A: We did not have class today. B: What did not you have for class?
A: Because the teacher was absent.
10. A: I did not speak to him. B: What did not you speak for to him?
A: Because I was lifting weights.
Why = How come. How come asks about reason too.
NOTICE: Question order is not used with how come. The subject follows the verb.
See the following examples:
1. A: I took more money. B: How come you took more money?
A: Because I bought a pair of jeans.
2. A: I was quite worried around midnight. 
B: How come you were worried around midnight?
A: Because my husband was never late.
3. A: He left. B: How come he left?
A: Because he felt so tired.
4. A: She opened the window. B: How come she opened the window?
A: Because the room was hot.
5. He was upset. B: How come he was upset?
A: Because he lost his wallet.
6. A: The players were very excited. B: How come the players were very excited?
A: Because they won the match.
7. A: I did not get work on time. B: How come you did not get work on time?
A: Because I missed the bus.
8. A: There were not a lot of shoppers at the mall. 
B: How come there were not a lot of shoppers at the mall?
A: Because there was not a sale at the mall.
9. A: My car did not start. B: How come your car did not start?
A: Because the battery was dead.
10. A: The singer did not come at the weddings. 
B: How come the singer did not come at the weddings?
A: Because she did not have a good voice.
Each number has three sentences. Those three sentences have the same meaning.
Using by why, what ... for, how come.
1. (a) Why are you going? (b) What are you going for
(c) How come you are going?
2. (a) Why are you at the store? (b) What are you for at the store?
 (c) How come you are at the store?
3. (a) Why does he need a dollar? (b) What does he need for a dollar? 
(c) How come he needs a dollar?
4. (a) Why do you live here? (b) What do you live for here? 
(c) How come you live here?
5. (a) Why are you going to leave? (b) What are you going to leave for
(c) How come you are going to leave?
